WEB BACKUPS
Life is full of mishaps, accidents and disasters. From earthquakes to broken pipes, from theft to disgruntled employees, your business must be prepared for unforeseen setbacks and major disasters. Businesses in some industries, such as finance and healthcare, are legally bound to protect their data. But every business should develop a plan for data backup and emergency recovery to ensure that operations continue to run smoothly. This plan should include trying your employees to store all data on your company network, performing daily backups, and ensuring that data can be easily recovered in the event of an emergency.
By automating your backup and emergency recovery process through an onsite server and or a third party service, you save valuable business time, which increases your company's efficiency and productivity. You also ensure that all your company's systems are backed up consistently, rather than relying on individual employees to handle this business critical task.
There are many reasons for using off-site backups, including protection from theft, system crashes, and environmental factors. If backups don't exist, valuable data could be lost forever, costing your business countless dollars and hours of time trying to recover. According to a University of Texas study, nearly half of all small companies that lose their data never reopen after the loss, and 90% are out of business within two years. Data loss costs businesses 12 billion dollars per year, but if you plan for these types of emergencies and use off-site backups, you can avoid the hassle and potentially save your business' future.
Choosing only the files that need to be backed up can save you time when you run your backups, and space on your backup site. We recommend backing up files that cannot be easily replaced, like personal files and documents. Anything that was created by you, difficult to replace (financial or tax files), used frequently (email contact and Internet bookmarks), or priceless files (photos and videos), should be backed up regularly. Operating system files, application and program files, temporary files, and scan disk error files do not normally need to be backed up. To help you with file selection, our backup software comes with pre-defined filters which allow you to select categories of files without having to know where the files are located on your computer.
Our off-site backup service consists of a client application running on one or more customer workstations or servers that encrypts, compresses, and transmits your data for storage and safe-keeping. Our backup software uses a FastBIT patching process that makes our service one of the fastest and most efficient backup services available. The FastBIT patching process compares files that are being backed up with those that are already stored, and extracts the differences between them. The difference is saved with the old file in a new one and is compressed into a patch. This patch file is often 85%-99.9% smaller than the file which the patch was originally extracted from, saving you time and storage space.
Depending on the speed of your connection and the size of your backup, your initial backup may take several hours. After the first backup is complete, each subsequent backup is usually very small and can be done quickly, even using a dial-up Internet connection. Our software can also keep track of cancelled backups and can resume those backups again when an Internet connection is restored and the backup is restarted.
If you have an Internet connection, even a dial-up connection, you can use off-site backups. The off-site backups application is provided by us, and a 30-day free trial can be obtained from us just by calling.
Prince Albert Photocopier's off-site backup service works to provide you with a completely secure and private way to protect your data. Prince Albert Photocopier maintains additional redundant tape backup copies outside of influence and disaster. You, as the customer, maintain complete control over what data is to be backed up and may choose to configure email alerts to provide you with notification as to backup procedure problems such as failed or missed backups. Client-Side log files can be generated for each backup session, which allow you to manage all aspects of the backup sessions including files that were in use at the time of backup, server data storage space, and any errors that occurred during backup. These log files will allow customers to customize and keep track of all aspects of the backups.
